I was waiting the entire film to understand and I didn't and I loved that. Shelley Duvall and Sissy Spacek are the ultimate dream team, both inhabiting such vividly unsettling expressions that shift the entire tone of the film into a realm of unnerving, eerie, creepy, un-trustworthy unpredictability.
