It’s as good of an adaptation of the games as I believe possible tbh. In fact, it’s very faithful in that every moment spent out of the animus is an absolute slog. The matrix comparisons are unavoidable. I can’t comment the cinematography and action enough. Maybe a bit too choppily edited to give a sense of urgency but idk. It’s a fine adaptation of a fine series of games. The rotten tomatoes score is unfairly low.

Not often does a film come along that makes me ache the way this one did.  There’s so much here about compassion, community, greed, environmental disaster. More than anything, this film has, and is made with, so much love in its heart. It knocked me to the ground without a single spoken word.

It’s huge, audacious, and otherworldly. The tone and atmosphere of a fable with larger than life characters was nailed. Unwaveringly hopeful and grandiose. Deeply upsetting and guaranteed to get under your skin. longlegs blew me away. What an experience. Some unforgettable frames in this film. Cage is a visceral force (found myself clenching my hands until some of his scenes ended) and Monroe has a magnetic presence. (A deeply expressive and restrained performance with total command of the assignment) Some have made comparisons of this to Alan Wake 2 and holy shit I can feel that. Felt icky the whole drive home afterwards.
