  Rewatching this movie as an adult, I was surprised to see how well it held up. Performances from the kids are great, Dan Akroyd is very believable as The single father/mortician, and Jamie Lee Curtis is easy to love. Also watching it now, realized that it’s really a movie about death and coming to terms with it as a fact of life.

  It’s great to see a movie where the lead character overcomes their flaws and grows into a hero. Unfortunately, as a character, Mulan has no flaws. The film starts out with her being pretty virtuous; just misunderstood by everyone else. Then she goes on being herself and everyone else finally accepts her, but she didn’t really change. It was kind of like watching an old John Wayne western where he’s the hero, everyone else is wrong, and he wins. Just…

  After watching 1917, my Apple Watch told me that my “heart rate rose to above 120 BPM multiple times while I was seemingly inactive” I credit this to 1917, otherwise I may have to see a doctor.

  I can’t tell if this movie made me feel sad and old, or brought me back to a time in my life when I was young and optimistic. Maybe a little of both?
