As good of a documentary as one could make on orchestra conductor Carlos Kleiber, who simultaneously resisted making recordings, famously cancelled concert appearances, was a legendary perfectionist, gave only one interview that I know of:
admitted only select pieces into his repertoire, due again to relentless perfectionism and self-criticism (Beethoven Symphony #5 and #7, but no #9?!)
But I dare you to find better, more mesmerizing, more elegant, more alive performances of the above Beethoven symphonies, or Beethoven’s Coriolan…
