Beautiful beautiful beautiful - from the cinematography, to the gentle exploration of human connection, to Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray. As a fellow philosophy student who writes and takes photos and sometimes worries it’s all a bit shit, I really enjoyed watching this. I also like that it’s not an overly sexualised exploration of male / female connection (female director duh).

Feels a bit colonial though. ‘Silly Japanese aren’t we so much more wise and complex than you ha ha’ vibe. But I guess just sign of the times??

A Big stain on the Sex and the City franchise.

Deducted a star for the ugly hat Carrie wears to her wedding.

    Middle Eastern propaganda??

Carrie getting drawn to Aidan during the call to prayer is my new favourite example of Westernised post feminism.

Peaks in the scene where the girls can’t get a taxi because they’re in burkas but Carrie solves this issue by revealing a leg.

Bonus star for Liza Minelli performing at a gay wedding.

So fucking good. Funny, heartwarming, colourful, star-studded, and for everyone. Genuinely heartbreaking in the final act - I would be lying if I said tears were not shed. Elton John as the soundtrack is a genius move. I also really fancy Gnomeo - he is animated to be so sexy, and voiced by James McAvoy... they knew what they were doing.
