God I wish SO BADLY that lynch had been able to make a series of movies with full creative control to fully realise his vision! There just isn't enough time in one feature to tell this whole story, which is so tragic for what could have been. Lynch's understanding of Herbert's novel, his script and the gigerean epic visuals, sets and costume design... It's amazing how close this movie comes to how I pictured the novel in my head! If I died and went to heaven it would be a 8 hour director's cut of this film.
