A pretty flawless musical adaptation. Elevates the stage show and brings so much more depth. And I feel like people aren’t talking enough about the acting - real stellar nuanced performances from Cynthia and Ariana.

Thought I’d start my Akerman education with her debut feature made when she was only 23/24! I was struck by such a confident artistic voice and perspective - and then you remember it came out in 1974!
I knew about the groundbreaking 10 minute long graphic lesbian sex scene (the first of its kind apparently) but not the 20 minutes watching Akerman simply sat on the floor eating sugar out of a paper bag with a spoon, which felt almost as radical in our modern fast paced cinematic landscape - to sit with and face the mundane.
I’m intrigued to see how her style evolves!
