The fact that this is the best entry in the series since 1986 probably speaks more to the quality of the other sequels and spin-offs than it does to this one. Cailie Spaeny gets surprisingly little to do, the final alien hybrid looks a bit daft, and the faulty (uncomfortably autistic-coded) android repeats Ripley’s famous dialogue in a pretty cringe-inducing final moment.
But heck, I still enjoyed it! The dirty future vibes are on point, the disturbingly sexual body horror…
Just a bunch of meaningless shit for an hour and a half. The whole film means diddly-squat. It tries to skate by on vibes alone, laying down countless horror movie tropes and reveals, one on top of another, before farting out a few lines of Nicolas Cage’s non-sequitur nonsense and the most cliche devil worshipping plot twist imaginable. These poor actors are trying their best, but it’s all sitting on top of a languid script that’s got absolutely nothing to SAY.…
More like ‘A BORING Place: Day One’.
The only reason to watch this is the cute cat.
