There's never a moment where you feel at ease watching this. It is so gut-wrenching, even watching it at home 50 years after its initial release. Just non-stop terrifying nightmare, literally perfectly made. So many cool weird experimental shots for such a "simple" movie, and those performances and the set design and all of the iconic moments and the originality, DANG. I love everything about it.
AND THAT INTRO!! Just terrifies you to even watch the film before it starts. And having them pick up the hitchhiker to introduce us to everyone and set the theme for the whole film!!! Ahh!! So good!!
Works super well as a "sequel/reunion made years later". That is not easy to pull off. It has the exact right vibe.
I can't believe people think this was better than the first drunken master. This was worse in every single way. This movie had no style of its own, it just felt like a mediocre hong kong stunt movie.
Only Robert Eggers could remake Nosferatu. Really well executed, some jaw-dropping performances, but not one I'm personally inclined towards. I would say I probably liked it less than The Witch and less than The Lighthouse. Some of the imagery in there will definitely STAY stuck in my brain though...
