Love the film, but am I crazy for liking it a little less on rewatch? Feels like the subtlety masqueraded by the glamour of the editing and pacing just isn’t as deep as it seemed on first watch.
I’m still on the edge of my seat watching this movie, but best not to think too much about how immature these characters are even ten years later. The show must go on.
There was a shot that made me go “holy shit! I saw this movie as a child!” and for some reason it happened during one of the spookiest frames. Talk about unlocking core memories.
Love the film for its overall atmosphere, visuals and moment to moment action. I’ll admit the plot, acting and shot composition don’t hold up. Surprised to see such good actors in the film. Still recommend it.
There’s many interesting shots, lighting effects and editing cuts that add to the slow burn of a horror film set out in the country, which makes for the perfect setting to deconstruct institutionalization through the church and the FBI. The trees in the movie are very well shot.
But the script, the performances, the pacing, the sound design are just bad. Sometimes it’s funny bad, but most of it is bad bad, and bad bad is the worst kind of bad.
