Fury Road was always going to be a hard act to follow and I loved the slower paced, more contemplative 10,000 Years of Longing, but something felt missing for me.

There is a version of this film that's 10 - 15mins shorter that would make this a perfect 5 star film, but that's a small complaint with a film this entertaining, well acted, and genuinely brilliant! And that's before we even talk about how great the score and cinematograhy is.

Barring the alien horse section in the middle this is everything I want from modern Star Wars and feel it's what the series needs. A film that honours the past but isn't afraid to present its heroes with new challenges and new hurdles to overcome and put them on new paths. Truly astounding filmmaking with moments of beauty, awe and - dare I say - surrealism throughout. Star Wars felt new again!
Oh, and for all those complaining about Luke…
The Star Wars prequel we truly deserved. The final act is one of the best in all 21st century cinema.
