Pretty funny and entertaining and sweet. Definitely a bougie fantasy, but I thought it exposed the hollowness inherent in the middle class as well as it could for a big movie.

Great acting, and the early scenes at the strip club brought out the mundane nature of sex work. But I wish the movie focused more on Ani and not the sensitive thug. I liked him, but I think it took away from the nature of sex work and what it can do to people. Entertaining, for sure, but needed more insight into the main character’s life.

Tarantino’s meditation on middle age. The 70s and blacksploitation are long gone. Betraying Sam L.’s cool demeanor is an incompetent kingpin ten steps behind. Louis is a washed up bum. Jackie is unsure and unsettled in her life, but chooses to take risks. Max is sure and settled and also decides to take risks. Don’t be afraid to live!

An entertaining movie marred by an unwillingness to critically engage with anything beyond narcissism of the well-off and their cult-ish opposition. Normally, I don’t like prescriptive stories, but I do think the suggestion of a genuinely sustainable alternative system would be worthwhile. Instead, we get a both-sides story of grievances that doesn’t do much but make people feel good about how hollow our society is.
