it pains me to say that this is a pretty terrible movie… the story and performances aren’t really the issue here but the pacing is insane? and the editing is completely non-sensical i was so disappointed. what a waste of a good premise and good actors and good chemistry. it’s incredible to know this is the film that sparked paul newman’s interest and career in racing so i’m glad i got to watch it but yeah for my paul and joanne marathon this is not the best.

i’m definitely biased because i’m brazilian and i’ve also been following rudy mancuso and camila mendes’ career for years now but i found this movie so incredibly charming
i loved how mancuso experimented with so many different techniques and wasn’t afraid to go all-in on his outlandish ideas — the puppets, the one-shot set changes, the incorporation of music in unexpected ways — it was so refreshing to see. i wouldn’t call this film a masterclass on directing by all means…
