reminds me of Taming of the Shrew in that I do believe there is a way to contextualize the material (specifically for TotS it’s domestic violence, and for SC, it’s the trans experience) in a way that feels progressive and modern, and yet, I am not convinced that this was the original intention of the creator: but does that really matter if someone, now, does feel seen and represented by it? Idk, just something I’m thinking about. (I am also acutely aware that these are vastly different bodies of work but they both currently have a divisive reception/ understanding)

I had monumentally high expectations for this and thankfully, I am every bit as in love with it as I hoped I would be. Robert Eggers is on a short list of directors that can really do no wrong in my eyes.
