As a self-proclaimed super fan of SNL (especially the early 2000s cast) I adore this documentary. Franco was just doing Franco and I’m really glad he submitted this to the film festival that he did even if it was years after he filmed the doc. Ive come back to watch it twice and wouldnt be surprised if it happens again. Seeing the production behind a single SNL show almost 20 years ago, without the technology we have as of current is insane to me and makes me appreciate that era of SNL 10000x more.
Watching this was the worst decision I made in 2025 and I’m saying this with 363 days left of the year. Zoolander 2 is the cinematic equivalent to rolling your ankle and falling directly into a steaming hot pile of dog excretion.
Never has a Disney soundtrack slayed so unbelievably hard- I’ve literally had it on repeat since I walked out the cinema, thank you Mr Miranda for that. The plot holes from the other Lion King films have all been filled in so there’s really nothing to complain about. All I’ll say is that it was a little bit fast paced, but the structure of the narrative being a story from Rafiki sort of accounts for that. The lack of emotion…
Is it a classic? Yes. Is the blackface necessary on three separate occasions? Of course not. The plot in itself was ridiculous but the fact that it parodied all the celebrities that guest starred in it sort of made up for that. Stiller and Wilson are a great duo but I can’t get over the fact that there are so many racist jokes that didn’t even land; the worst thing is that the non-controversial jokes were really quite funny.
