Now, this is how you make a first contact story. So much more nuanced than the typical "we're here to conquer you *evil laugh*".
The very fact language is taken seriously in this movie (major plotline) is testament to its sophistication. Bonus point for developing a very creative alien written language.
This film is not world-shattering, but does basically everything right.
A great reminder that humiliation may serve as a great educational method. Anyone complaining about the inaccuracies in how the jazz scene is represented clearly missed the point.
Whiplash teaches us some dreams are worth pursuing in detriment of short-term well-being and, sometimes, even long-term. Is it the right thing to teach? Who knows.

Sublime mix of politics, soft sci-fi and action.
Hans Zimmer shows why he's still the best in the game with an absolutely iconic soundtrack that feels unique, though still slightly too connected to existing themes in middle eastern music.
The film drags out a tad much for my taste, and it felt like in the last 30 minutes any scene could have been the last. And yes, it was very orange.
Multiverse done right.
Sensational as a stand-alone, incredible as a continuation, and god knows how good it will be as setup. Now we wait for the final piece.
