  The absence of dialogue coerces the viewer to really sit and think about the destruction of our natural world, and the inherent conflict of working together to save it. We can’t place our morals onto the Cat and leave them when the credits start, but work through that discomfort.

  What I ultimately missed from Poor Things was curiosity about bodies outside of sex, specifically the female body. What about body hair, periods, wrinkles! While sex is critical in exploring curiosity, much of growing an awareness of one’s person is not sexual. There is a missed opportunity in not exploring the beauty and pain of being in a subjugated body, and Bella’s growing awareness of that dynamic.

  I didn’t rock with this like I expected to. Mikey Madison works well with what she’s given, which isn’t a lot. Anora ends with a strange emotional depth that opposes how little we actually get to know her character. It’s not just that we see little of Anora’s aspirations, but she seems too smart to believe Vanya’s grift. If the script reflected her desperation to start a new life or something in that field, I’d believe her emotional state a…
