    Maclean, king of the split diopter. I’m all for any western which is able to subvert the genre while still holding to the tenants of any classic Western. Although Slow West does subvert the visual style we expect from westerns by using a brighter colour grade and some lovely cinematography, when you’re watching Mendelsohn, Smit-McPhee, and Fassbender dialogue with each other it’s all on display to be seen that Slow West’s real subversion is this sort of bizarre innocence held…

    Harmony Korine oh how I adore your strange brain. I love Gummo so much, and much more on a rewatch upon realising that it was filled with bangers like Rundgang Um Die Transzendentale Saule Der Singularitat! I also love the anti-narrative approach and will always be continually surprised at how Gummo didn’t spark a trend for the use of anti-narrative cinema, it really should have.
