I truly can’t decide between a 4.5 and 5. Gonna start with a 4.5 and let the digestion process decide if it needs a bump.
I love a movie that makes you pause and discuss what just happened to make sure you didn’t miss anything. It shows how any word or action, no matter how small, can change everything. This movie kept you guessing for 145 minutes straight, which is partly why it took us almost 3 hours to finish…

The parallels between the plot itself and the real-life timeline of the movie are really interesting. The resistance members and director weren’t alive to see their work come to fruition.
I liked almost everything about it from the shots (shoutout to the Marseille calanque @geft), to the purposeful silence, to Gerbier’s perfect performance. His composure never wavered despite his fragile situation, like his glasses falling from the sky secured by a few bandaids.
The only thing that took away from my score were my expectations. If I had seen this in a gorgeous Egyptian theater I might have felt different.
