The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford 2007
Brad Pitt and Casey Afflecks best work is on display here. Pitts chilling as Jesse, the look in his eyes at the dinner table will haunt me. And there's a tragedy Casey shows with Robert Ford. A child caught up in glamorized portrayals of an old time outlaw, who's only just a man. These two are characters in stage play tragedy, we know the ending, yet can't look away.

Shotgun Stories 2007
I was intrigued by this film by an on the nose review, "A point-blank buckshot blast of American rage." There's no rage in this film. Vast emptiness and grief that isn’t even a blast. It's slow, leaves the violence for the audiences mind, but the violence and anger isn't the point. This film artfully deals with the cyclical nature of generational trauma, men's grief, and brotherhood. This won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it's one I enjoyed.
