The Tree of Life is extremely interesting. While the movie itself is mostly filmed with minimal dialogue and light music, it uses a montage of close up to far away shots. As Gianetti says in Understanding Movies, “Through the juxtaposition of shots, new meanings can be created.” Repeated imagery for emphasis and use of low-angle shots emphasize emotions like feeling small or inferior, or as Gianetti put it, “insecure and dominated” (pg. 15).
