Maps to the Stars 2014
Spellbinding, I could watch Julianne Moore do anything but I’d prefer to do it when she is in a Cronenberg flick. She truly leaves it all in the field. Delightfully desolate and disturbing. The film is on the pulse of the psychosphere in Hollywood and in the Zeitgeist at large and its atmosphere feels nostalgic yet completely new. A smorgasbord of intentional cliches and tropes that do nothing but beckon you further into the story. Despite the brutality, satirical ostentatiousness, and real crudeness it feels and looks and sounds beautiful.
