there's kinda more wrong with this than I thought there would be — it's about 10 to 20 minutes too long, and the movie never really shakes this paternalistic "girl power!" perspective that starts to feel really gross by the end. but like.... oh my god I left stunned. ani is one of my new favorite characters in anything, and I somehow feel so seen by her portrayal despite being basically nothing like her.

too simple of a male fantasy to really speak truth to the idea of growing out of adolescence, but oh my god, there are some individual moments in this that are just . . . perfectly beautiful. I've never seen anything that so perfectly captures the sensation of lingering lazily on the border between childhood and adulthood, excited by what you could be yet in no rush to change.
honestly great!!! the twisters and the love story are the most important parts and the movie gets those things really really right. everything outside of those two aspects is a lot dicier but with its really strong core, issues like a underdeveloped supporting cast dont really matter that much. your mileage will vary on the love story based on your response to the phrase "cowboy meteorologist influencer love interest", but glen powell is hella charismatic and made that character work for me.
also, a reoccurring line in this movie is the phrase "If you feel it, CHASE IT!!!"...... do they know? 🤔🫣🤯🤭🤭🤭
