Poor Things 2023
I really struggled to rate this one. The performances were brilliant. The imagery and choices of lens and perspective immersive. I had a sort of discomfort and hesitance over what the film tried to say; there are some very valid critiques out there about it’s “male gaze feminism” which articulate this better than I can. The pacing at times was drawn out and slow. I also couldn’t get past that a great deal of the film involved an actual infant/child.…

Saw the rerelease in IMAX 3D, a well-trodden story with some problematic themes and ideas (oh boy, the white saviourism) but cannot escape the fact that it is visually stunning. The plot and pacing is lacking on the rewatch but more than made up for by sigourney weaver, all those colours, and the nature and wildlife on Pandora. I want to live in those floating mountains. #theOGrogueone
