My dad and I were two very different people despite having the same exact name (One major difference: I have a middle name and he didn't, so I can never properly be called "Junior"). While it may simplify and streamline the book just a hare (heh heh) too much, the story it tells, the enchanting animation, the beautiful score, the voice acting, and everything else about this film just works and delivers something incredibly solid. A great film proving that animation is so much more than just fodder for children's' films. An adaptation on par with its source material and an animated classic worth watching if you want to see something that contributed to animation history in a great way.
This is the most atrocious kids movie I've ever seen. It's getting five stars from me NOT because it's a good film, but because this is such a fantastic experience to watch with friends who have never seen it before. I use the stars to designate enjoyment and this is one of the most fun bad kids movies to watch with friends. It's so horrible and incompetent that it gains a strange magic that becomes very weirdly and oddly endearing. There won't be another kids movie like this for several generations. When the cow moos three times, start sucking those straws!
If nothing else, I got to watch Hugh Grant be unhinged and watch him advertise fake dog food in a dog costume.
