Every single detail of this film was so well thought out, planned, and precisely executed. Every shot beautifully composed. The shallow depth of field brought you into the minds of the characters, yet made you feel as though you were looking in, observing something you weren’t supposed to see. This film looked and sounded absolutely beautiful (except some unintelligible dialogue) but the plot fell flat and everyone, especially Ellen, felt very one dimensional. She only existed to serve the men in the story, and had no character traits besides loving Tomas and being cursed in a way that was never fully explained. The exploration of sex and desire felt unnecessary and shallow. The fact that she just gave herself up in the end because it was “the only way”…
