I guess he only had one child that mattered enough to have a speaking role in the film?
I felt absolutely no connection to any of these characters. It was hard to believe that any of them cared about each other either for most of the film. Everything felt so darn lifeless.

One of my favorite movies of all time. Everything about this film works so well. The narration/script by itself is entrancing. For me, the balance of "positive" and "negative" space in sound, narration, and imagery is my favorite aspect. The use of documentary footage from around the world is expertely spliced together to share this meditation on the human condition.
This is one of the films I use as a litmus test in potential partners (only kind of joking).
