  Had to watch in multiple sittings, which was disappointing. I liked some of the shooting and thought the plot BECAME interesting, but the beginning was slow. Eh.

  Many great scenes but the poorer ones leave a bad taste. 
  The opening scene felt weird-in particular the music.

  The trajectory of the plot was a little unsatisfying. Couldn’t get into the Cameron Diaz plot, confused about the whole Monk thing.

  Daniel day Lewis does a great job with Bill the butcher-Leo does alright. Worth watching if only for featuring Boss Tweed as a prominent character

  I liked it. The movie is dark and shows the brutality, tension, and awkwardness(?) expected in a civil war. 

  I understand that the plot of the civil war itself is pretty hollow but think that it could have been an artistic decision, not to mention time constraints. This could have been made into an 8 part series.

  I do feel like there was more that could’ve been done exploring what it means to be a journalist in a civil war–as opposed to just being means to get civilians near the front lines.
