The role of sexuality in this movie is interesting. If you subscribe to the idea that Ava has consciousness, then sexuality is perhaps an expression of her ‘human-ness’. But if you support the theory that she was simply following Nathan’s orders of escaping by any means necessary, then perhaps it’s simply a tool to control Caleb who then himself becomes a tool later cast aside when no longer needed. Either way, a fantastic movie through and through. I was also fond of the reverse Turing test scene in which Caleb is unsure whether or not he is human. Great stuff
