  This movie is really bad and only gets two stars based on its admittedly slick design. It feels like Ridley (and whomever) wrote one draft of the script, and then barred themselves from making any adjustments/changes as a challenge to themselves (i.e. the guy who literally maps the area is the only one who gets lost).

  I firmly believe that since his "visionary" years, Ridley has been on a campaign to convince everyone, including himself, he is still a visionary director; unfortunately forgetting that character and story are also important.

  The c-section scene is still incredible.

  Points for a few genuinely affecting scenes, a solid lead performance, and as always an artist taking a big swing... But ultimately too much felt inconsistent/arbitrary and it lacked a lot of restraint. 8 years is a long time to get a movie made and I seriously admire and respect the filmmaker's resolve; I think in that 8 years perhaps it was overbaked.
