Anora 2024
Reminded me of Uncut Gems or Good Time but with more like-able characters and a greater psychological and emotional treatment of its characters. Ani is such a strong person at such a young age, Vanya is weak and immature and fleeting, Igor is humble, simple, and wise. What a brilliant ending scene, so much to unpack.
Sean Baker has struck gold with every release and I wasn’t sure how he’d top Red Rocket but I think he did. Maybe it’s just having more in the budget, if that’s the case then keep giving him money cuz I want more and more.

Another Round 2020
One of my favorite endings ever, so many mixed emotions with a touch of hope and a sense of ongoing problems. It achieves a kind of catharsis, but not the kind you usually see in movies. Great performances and use of music, plus a lot of nice camera work.

Possession 1981
One of the best movies I’ve ever seen? Absolutely insane. Not all of it is good. But ALL of it works so well together, it’s a lightning in a bottle situation. Haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.
Love all the performances, even the over-acting. Love all of the unexplained elements of horror, and the setting next to the Berlin wall. The movie has so many different layers of mismatching performances, supernatural and psychological horror, well crafted photography. The barely sensical rants toward the end are exceptionally acted and shot.
A lot going on in this brilliant batshit movie.

Longlegs 2024
I’ve loved every Oz Perkins movie to date, and anything I’ve ever seen his dad be a part of. This is no exception, it’s excellent. I guess my main confusion was all the things I’ve heard from other people about it. Why tf was it being compared to silence of the lambs? Because it was a woman investigator and a serial killer? Are there no other stories that do that? And why did people say it had cheap jumpscares? Did…
