A delightful confection of a movie musical that's a brisk 90 minutes. Some very fun and catchy songs, including the iconic "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend," and gorgeous costuming by Marilyn's frequent costumer William Travilla.
The chemistry and comic timing between Russell and Monroe is pitch perfect (although Marilyn really ate Jane up in the choreo). I appreciate that Lorelei (Monroe) is unapologetic in going after what she wants and that the movie never really punishes her for it…
Jonathan Harker stakes Dracula’s bride, so the Count moves to London and revenge fucks Jonathan’s friend’s wives. This Hammer classic is the first of many erotically charged Draculas, and the streamlined story moves at a crisp pace. Peter Cushing’s Van Helsing has some truly stellar fits. The colors are gorgeous as are the gothic sets. Definitely a top tier Dracula movie. This may be Vlad’s show, but Gerda, the bumbling housekeeper is the film’s true villain.
The alternate title for this movie could've been "Dracula Goes to the Virgin Megastore." Seriously, it should've gotten second billing.
