A good arthouse horror has been lost inside an overly polished mediocre studio movie.
Miyazaki via Eire. Heartfelt and visually captivating. Loved the bold animation choices and the central story of friendship. Made me smile a lot and cry a little.
Poetic realism. Incredible central performance carrying the whole movie. Doc style editing, felt drawn from a vast amount of footage. Jumping from scene to scene she never felt the need to hold our hand and allowed us to figure out what what changed. Beautiful cinematography, seemingly all shot at dawn or dusk.
A fun popcorn movie, but hovering between thinking it was very clever and knowing it was a bit daft.
