Even though I might be a bit late to the party, Lady Bird now holds the crown for my favourite Gerwig film.
It's coming of age, so there's plenty comedy and drama. But they really blend well here and the portrayals of usual themes do not stumble on the classic stereotypes. It feels real, with the brokenness of people at the fore-front of Lady Bird's journey, as she is finding her footing in the world as an adult.
Lastly, through all hardship there's silver linings, there's balance, as we feel so strongly for Christine's bitter-sweet win in the end.
