i looooooved the first part and it felt like it could become an immediate favourite.
but holy shit that second half of the movie was tacky. and overwhelmingly underwhelming, somehow? wish it had been … 20% more serious
4 stars for the worldbuilding, the acting and obviously, for r patz
some moments were really long .. others too short? also, the music choices were so bad throughout that it kept taking me out of the movie (besides T.a.T.u obviously). loved igor. all in all, give me this directed by a woman and passing the bechdel test and i would love it
it feels wrong to call it that, but this movie felt like it belonged in the slice of life genre (in the most morbid way possible). through the narration of the letters of a soldier, we witness the collapse, or reformatting, of the human mind - from oppressed to oppressor. we witness the distress of the youth, the grief of mothers. the movie paints a (at-times ironically funny) vivid picture of the violence that stems from institutions - police, military, church.
