The Monkey 2025
As Bojack Horseman once said, it has nothing to say and it says that nothing badly. This is an unfathomably stupid movie that gives you no one and nothing to root for. A complete rip-off of the Final Destination series, where a plastic monkey is meant to represent the uncertainty of death (and at least Final Destination created stereotypical characters that elicited any kind of emotion in the audience and upheld the traditional horror/gore archetypes). i didn't appreciate how we rarely saw things from ani's perspective, and i struggled to understand her character until the literal end of the film. it felt like a very surface-level idea that as a sex worker, she was unable to reciprocate anything but sexuality, this theme of lack of emotional vulnerability being prevalent in pretty much every storyline about sex workers. and girl, take out that goddamn hair tinsel.

The Purge: Election Year 2016
feels like a tubi movie on a higher budget (seizure-inducing camera work and shoddy dialogue). i almost wonder if january 6'ers took inspiration from this movie.
