I could see the 1970s political espionage influences they were aiming for, and I thought the sequences with Isaiah Bradley at the White House were some of the best of the movie. I could see where the plot started to get a bit diluted and there was some evidence of post-production reworking, but compared to many modern Marvel projects they did a much better job hiding the seams than they could have. Overall, I thought it was an interesting movie…
Emotional movies aren’t my cup of tea usually, but for a sadder movie, this one was genuinely very good. I noted the slow, lengthy shots and the striking consistency of the blue and beige color palette. I also was pleasantly surprised by the ending because I thought I would cry and the surprise of not being sad when you’re expecting to is actually one of the strongest positive emotions a movie can create.
First 2/3rds were so great but it fumbled HARD in the third act. So disappointing, it started off awesome.
