I'm ten minutes into this, and I want to die. This is my review.
Edit: Maybe this is a comedy, because it had become unintentionally hilarious. The acting...is? The story is actually based on an urban legend that I hadn't heard of until several years ago, so I'll leave that alone. There are no thrills, no scares. If you're looking for something to watch while doped up on Benadryl, this might be the ticket.
The emotional backstory (hello, 5 stages of grief) pack more of a punch than the actual plot. There is an attempt to build a sort of psychological slow burn that just doesn't pay off. You want a creepy people knocking on your door story, go watch The Strangers. PS- Robyn Lively is in this, which added the 1/2 star. Teen Witch is the greatest: fight me.
This was unsettling, until about halfway through. Parker claims this is a spiritual sequel to Rosemary's Baby, but that doesn't quite seem to fit the mood. As I said, the first half has some disconcerting moments, then goes completely off the rails and into "ehhhhhhhI'm bored". Not awful, not great, middle of the road work with some good campy slasher moments. This review is as boring as the back half of the movie.
