Something is exceedingly charming about how WEIRD Tim Burton was in this era, an unusually wholesome film.
Just clever and simple enough to make me think I had the whole thing figured out (but in a pleasant detective way, not a boring predictable way) just to hit with a twist at the end. Having a protagonist that is far more capable and murderous than the enemy and a badass woman to boot was extremely welcome.
A sexual feverdream of someone else’s’ kinks, not for me but also impossible to look away from.
One of few films I consider better than the book it’s based on. Yes there are a few elements from the book I wish were included but the pacing is far better, Louis’s struggle is less whiny, and Lestat manages to be an intriguing psychopath rather than an entirely abhorrent one. And Kirsten Dunst as Claudia is one of the absolute peak performances of a child actor of all time. My main complaint is that some of the moments that should have felt intense felt almost laughable. But I’d still say all around a good adaptation.
