  Technically proficient, but lacking an emotional center to hold it all together. The ~3 hour runtime for seemingly endless suffering is a slog to sit through. Reading other reviews here from people who've read the source novel & taking a hint from the title itself, I can tell the core was supposed to be the protagonist's relationship with the animals he herded, but the film misses big-time in spotlighting that.
