here to remember and forget i exist
favs are cherished films i thought about recently
i was (smugly) prepared to find this film charming but formulaic and it surprised me many times over. so much modern media that explores this arena refuses to leave things unsaid, but then also refuses to dive into the filth. this film starts to get there, into how dirty the business of growing up is, and does well to remind us (me) that the pain in your heart may be hard to bear but there will never be a pit in it like there was at sixteen
preeti panigrahi is phenomenal and i can’t wait to see more of her
the sole female character in this film is only present to a) push tom cruise’s brash prodigy toward his potential and toward goodness b) be the recipient of a disgusting sexist comment from jack nickolson c) fuck up so tom cruise can benevolently forgive and defend her d) fuck up again big time so tom cruise can have the big meltdown and the subsequent climatic breakthrough
also seriously why do so many american writers insist on ruining decent dialogue with an awkward sonofabitch tacked on at the end
p.s. i am watching courtroom dramas all year so send me reccs!!
someone explain to me how good/bad daniel craig’s accent was compared to his intentionally bad accent in knives out
also what is it about adam driver that is so goddamn charming every second he is on the screen i need to pinpoint it!!
