  Loved when this was a hard boiled forensic mystery drenched in a clinical cynicism but the pivots to horror and lore dumping just made significant parts of it drag ass. Really enjoyed how refreshingly mean it was too. Not to rag on Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch (who give solid turns) but it’s hilarious to me that a corpse gave the best performance in this film. Justice for Stanley, he just wanted his rats.

  I just….its unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. They’re never, ever going to make movies like this ever again. The most endearing and heartfelt mess I’ve ever seen. I can’t help but fall in love with Coppola’s dream of love and a better tomorrow. It could come off as cheap and cloying but its total sincerity and wonderful romanticism completely rallies me behind whatever Coppola is doing here. It’s visually arresting and deeply overwritten at times but I loved the shit out of it. This one’s for the Real Dreamers™️
