A few dozen very cool ideas strung together poorly.
The film is very clearly about discovering one's identity, the isolation of that search, and fear of true expression to the point of dissociation.
Even though I struggle with them much less now, I know these feelings well.
So, I love the ideas of story they were trying to tell and many of the snapshot moments they conceived to tell it. But it just didn't quite all glue together.

After loving the first film, this was so disappointing. Though still visually stunning, it was in such a rush to tell the story and flip through head shots of temporally significant actors that it was more story board than story, more montage than movie.
Character's arcs were so jagged they seemed capricious. The passing of time was inconsistent and near indecipherable - for how long does this talking baby gestate?! And speaking of forever gestating babies, Chalamet was acceptable in…
The first third gave us sweet potential, the second a melancholy compromise, but the third...the third defined love, transcendant.
So well cast, so delicately written, so gorgeously scored, and so beautifully shot...
I can't think of anything else like it.
