  at first i was like haha this is very corny but kinda sweet. then it got very weird and sort of dark. weird pacing. philosophical questions that are mentioned but not really thought through, then suddenly resolved. 
  so sloppy. but cute.

  i don’t know what i expected. something more shallow, perhaps? a lousy story about how inspiration strikes and the moomins are created—oversimplified, there and done. this is not what i got. 
  this is tove jansson when it’s everything but the moomins. to say this is to tread muddy waters—as stated in the film through wonderful dialogue, she is her paintings. but more than that she’s her illustrations, the characters she creates, even though this is not really said aloud. but…
