I wanted to get around to watching this film much earlier, but hey, better late than never I guess. It is definitely one of 2013’s best films and arguably the greatest movie of that year, except for maybe Steve McQueen’s masterpiece, 12 Years a Slave. Spike Jonze’s Her is one of the most poignant, emotionally moving, intelligently written, and brilliantly acted romantic dramas I’ve ever seen. The performances are amazing, especially from Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson. They both have…

I want to preface this review by stating a few things. First off, I’ve always been fascinated with Guillermo Del Toro’s filmography and I knew this was receiving glowing reviews coming in (it currently has 97% on RT and 4.1 on LB as of right now). Probably the best documentary that I’ve ever seen, it is truly amazing and definitely worth a watch. I don’t give my 10 out of 10’s liberally, but this one deserves it. Two thumbs way up!

This is in response to L3BananaZ’s review. I found this to be a fascinating, compelling, and very well-made doc. I didn’t find the presentation to be boring in the slightest. This film got me to appreciate and love Sixto Rodriguez’s music. Like many, I never knew about him until I watched this documentary. This is one of my 10 favorite documentaries of all time. As for the film being biased, the documentary does leave some details out, but actually builds a captivating mystery and isn’t overly manipulative. How anyone can call this film boring and overrated is beyond me.
