  Watching Nobody Knows and Shoplifters within the span of 24 hours might not be something i advise to do if you want to stay sane mentally. Yet, I feel like those two films made me realize so much about life through the simplest scenes. I can’t believe Koreeda’s brain is real — what a genius. The themes he explored can quickly turn into melodrama generally, but instead, he just presents life in its most raw and honest form. He doesn’t manipulate your emotions, he just lets the characters exist, the moments of love and struggle unfolding quietly, while breaking your heart and leaving you shattered.
