This movie is just effortlessly brilliant and had the same profound impact on me as the first time I watched it.
The loaded gun and ticking clock at each timestamp throughout the film create such a building tension
J'apprécie la representation le director donne de les banlieues et le manque d’installations qui perpétue le cercle vicieux de la violence chez les jeunes.
Though one critique, just think how sexy Nicholas Cage would be as the lead, speaking French, just a thought…
When Ruairí suggested we watch a ‘horror’ movie called ‘Candyman’, I assumed it would be shite, for obvious reasons, but it was actually excellent.
The eerie martyrdom of Helen, the chilling metaphor of the Candyman for the gangs that terrorise, while claiming to police, the ghettos and their desire to be feared was not what I expected but very well done. The helicopter shots throughout the film were also super cool.
Will be forcing Ruairí to watch ‘La Haine’ next :-)
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Bob Dylan proves that behind every male narcissist with a massive ego and stupid sunglasses is an unfortunate woman who he treats like a mother and freeloads off of.
Despite this, as Ruairí so eloquently remarked, “if Timothy Chalamet asked me to get on his motorcycle I would say yes immediately”.
I also spent the entirety of this movie confused about the identity of the female folk singer. I am a bad feminist :-(
Lastly, this movie was so clearly a snub on Elvis.
