This movie makes you feel things, a quiet spectrum of emotions, though mostly dark ones with glimpses of light. For a story about grief, loss, guilt, addiction… I left feeling hopeful.
Florence was phenomenal, her character felt so personal and relatable while I had nothing in common with her on the surface. The character was so real, so broken and desperate for healing, haven't we all been there in some way, shape, or form? Having to choose healing when dwelling in the pain feels easier.
With all the positive reviews and Allison Williams as the lead, I went in hoping for Get Out (one of my favorite theater experiences of all time) which is not what this is, at all. But despite that it was actually a really fun, wacky, uber campy ride. A robotic doll that sings, dances, therapizes and will do anything to keep you safe… what could go wrong? I can see this turning into a cult classic. Be apart of the fun.
Aubry Plaza is on a fing roll! Loved the chemistry between the two leads and Emily’s speedy yet believable fall into crime. She remains root-able yet despicable at times and that’s the best kind of character imo.
At times incredibly funny with some of the sharpest laugh out loud writing of any film in a long time - not an easy feat considering it’s a truly sad story of two relentlessly stubborn ex-friends who self destruct in dramatic fashion. Despite this I did find much of the movie to be slightly too slow and one note and think they could have cut at least 20 minutes overall without altering much of the story.
