This film made me question the ability to differentiate between reality and derision.

The whole thing means to play as a caricature, yet raises some highly relevant ethical and moral issues underneath its comedic surface that we can patently observe in modern politics.

Between the conceited hand salutes, questionable red ties and familiar mouth mannerisms, Ruffalo reminded me of a certain someone…
He synonymously embodies this someone’s counterpart Elon Musk, wishing to transport the ‘elite’ to another planet.

Yet, I was unable to enjoy this film I must admit. I just couldn’t empathise with anyone.
    It feels a bit recycled.

Seeking revenge only lets the past dictate your future.
Yes, I understand how Niney’s character avoids the slaughter of his perpetrators and hence, avoiding inevitable forgiveness.
Yet, I believe that strength in letting go is the most satisfying of all.

The final question of journey pitched against destination (with the latter deemed the only thing of importance by the niece in her concluding speech) baffles me in the context of this movie.

This is because for me in The Brutalist, his destination IS his journey- they are both indistinguishable and interchangeable.

His journey depends on his destination ostensibly as much as the other way around. And this evidently is unveiled by the (hidden) past that we learn is embedded within…
