Red Shoe Diaries 1992
As weird and testosterone filled as Red Shoe Diaries is, I have to admit, I was completely drawn in. The cinematography is beautiful , the soundtrack is amazing , maybe It’s dramatic, and a little over-the-top but that’s what makes it work.
David Duchovny’s performance really did it for me. His grief, the way he unravels after finding out he was being cheated on is surprisingly moving. Beneath all the sensuality, there’s a real sadness, and that’s what really got me hooked.

This movie… wow. It’s so real, so full of yearning. Mike’s character is so tragically beautifully written, his unrequited love for Scott, the loss of his place in this world, his episodes, they show his emotional state. I like the parallel of Mike’s struggle and Scott’s temporary rebellion, they aligned for a fragment of time but inevitably Scott has a safety net to fall back to, Scott’s struggles feel less real, less tragic, like he wanted to play the role…
